ASBU Celebrating Word Radio Day

Over the years, the World Radio Day (WRD) celebration has covered themes such as Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, Youth, and Radio in Times of Emergency and Disaster.

Now it’s time to turn the attention to a vital activity in any society, permanently present on our radio waves, mostly affecting the younger generation and making everybody's day-to-day life much easier-- Sports. Indeed, the 2018 theme will be Radio & Sports.

Celebrating WRD in cooperation with UNESCO, the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) is focusing this year on encouraging radio stations around the world, whether they are a community, private, or public radio station, to bring even more sports to their audiences.

As part of the celebration, three ASBU member radio corporations from Algeria, Qatar and Egypt, will be sub-regional hubs to organize a number of events and celebration programs in celebration on Feb. 13, 2018 of WRD with a number of follow radio stations.

ASBU has also asked the Egyptian public radio to represent Arab radio corporations in joining the live celebration open programming day to be organized by UNESCO all day long on Feb. 13 and broadcast  worldwide.

WRD also wants radio stations to have the conditions that create great programming – in addition to entertainment and information - radiocasters must find creative ways to promote freedom of expression and address the key issues of today in local communities and across the globe.
