As part of its annual plan to cover major international events outside the Arab region for its members, ASBU deployed an engineering and news team to provide comprehensive coverage of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit, held in Addis Ababa from 11 to 15 February 2026.
The coverage included a full live broadcast of the summit’s opening session, which featured speeches by the outgoing Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and the Prime Minister of Palestine, as well as addresses by the Prime Minister of Italy and the President of Angola. The session also included the announcement of the new African Union leadership for 2026, the formal handover of the AU Chairmanship to the President of Burundi, and the opening address delivered in his capacity as summit chair.
ASBU also covered the closing session and the final press conference held jointly by the President of Burundi and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, followed by a press statement by the President of Ghana.
In total, around three hours of live content were produced and transmitted using multiple delivery systems, including the Minus Plus network, ASBU’s cloud-based platform via TVU technology from the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, and RTMP feeds through the ASBU exchange center.
Alongside the live coverage, ASBU produced and distributed daily news packages and recorded reports. These included general visuals of the African Union headquarters, group photos of heads of state and ministers, as well as highlights from the summit’s proceedings. The coverage also followed key meetings and events, including the Peace and Security Council sessions on Sudan and Somalia, the African High-Level Private Sector Forum, the Presidential Dialogue, the UN Secretary-General’s press conference, and interviews with several participants.
All reports were produced on-site and uploaded directly to the ASBU cloud platform. A total of 50 files were delivered, with a combined duration of approximately one hour and twenty minutes.
