ASBU General Assembly elects Engineer Abdelrahim Suleiman as Director General for a third term

 The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) General Assembly, held on December 13-15, 2021 in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, has elected Eng. Abdelrahim Suleiman as Director General for a third term of four years starting on January 1, 2023.

 
This election came thanks to the engineer’s high professional competence and superior ability in running the ASBU affairs during the first and second terms, and in view of what member corporations aspire to. His two terms of office witnessed many successful pilot projects for the benefit of member corporations, as well as the achievements made at the Arab and international levels.
Among these achievements, we can mention the building of the Arab States Broadcasting Union's academy for media training, the strengthening of program exchanges among member corporations, the launching of several technical and engineering projects, and the construction of a 5-star hotel that ASBU will benefit from in hosting hundreds of participants in its various activities.
 
Eng. Abdul Rahim Suleiman has been Director General of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) since January 2015. He holds a BS Degree with honors from the University of Khartoum, School of Electrical Engineering, Communications Department in 1978. He also held several positions in the engineering field for more than 30 years, the last of which was the Director of the Engineering Department at ASBU (1990 - 2014), where he supervised all technical projects, activities and secretarial work of the Engineering Committee
He contributed to the establishment of the radio and television exchange systems and to paving the way for its success, such as providing 3 advanced exchange systems, appropriate equipment and "satellite" capacity. Among the key initiatives he led or contributed to, we can mention establishing the ASBU remote training system, the Arab Unified Bouquet to cover various world regions on the most prominent satellites, as well as setting up the ASBU DTV system over the satellites Arabsat and Noorsat, the MENOS-ASBU exchange system, and launching the  ASBU Media Training Academy in addition to providing television coverage of major sporting events for which ASBU holds TV rights (World Cup, Olympic Games, Continental Cups).
