Investigate ways and means of promoting and ever enriching the daily Arab news exchange system. 

Investigate ways and means of further developing cooperation, coordination and exchange of news-related services amongst ASBU members.
 
Set up plans for an adequate coverage of great and special news events and monitor their implementation in all respects. 

See how to disseminate Arab news worldwide on the largest possible scale.

Work towards furthering ASBU relations with world broadcasting unions with a view to supporting Arab news exchange processes and enhancing their related mechanisms. 

Study the means of improving interaction and cooperation with news agencies and private news networks with a view to securing diversified sources of world news for the greater benefit of ASBU members 

Suggest carrying out professional studies and surveys likely to help enhance the performances of ASBU members’ news departments. 

Organize seminars and symposia likely to help ASBU members keep up with latest developments in the news sector.

  Activities

See to it that the recommendations of the Executive Council, the Television Permanent Committee, and the News Subcommittee in charge of Arab daily news exchanges are so implemented as to allow for these exchanges an ever higher level of performance in both form and content and an ever broader coverage at both arab and international levels (see annexed list of so far organized seminars and studies on arab TV news and the comprehensive analyses thereon). 

Ensure steady contacts between ASBU members’ news coordinators by holding an annual news coordinators’ meeting to discuss and evaluate all matters related to their activities. 

Maintain regular coordination with world broadcasting unions bound to ASBU by an agreement establishing equal treatment at no cost on the use of news items provided by these unions’ member-organizations. 

Collect data on news’ sources and study such data before submitting them to the News Subcommittee for likely inclusion in the services delivered to ASBU members. 

Cooperate and coordinate with world news agency and, in particular, APTN and Reuters in the area of news exchange and coverage of major news events in both the Arab world and worldwide. 

Coordinate the coverage of great and special news events in cooperation with the country or union hosting the given event and help ASBU members’ access to related data and all other requests, services and facilities they might need to that effect. And see to it that transmission of such news is properly carried out in cooperation with the Exchange Centre so that the collective coverage signal is carried directly on air via the Arabsat leased channel. 

Set a schedule for unilateral coverage requests by ASBU members.
