Arab News Exchange
The Multi-origin Arab TV news transmissions are items offered by participating members in the three daily news exchanges to all ASBU members through the hotswitching system coordinated by the Algiers-based Arab News and Programmes Exchange Centre. The three daily news exchanges take place according to the following time-schedule:

The Inter-Arab TV News exchange history has gone through several stages:

1970 : Air-freight carriage
-
1985 : Launching of the Arab Satellite and beginning of Arab daily news exchange.

1987 : the Algiers based Arab News and Programme Exchange Centre enters into operation

1990 : Leasing a TV Channel on Arabsat (Transponder 23) for an hourly exchange of news and programmes on a hotswitching system

1992 : starting of the daily editorial conferences through the 4-wire audio circuit.

1995 : The Centre starts applying the Video-Dat System- This system sends the text data through the video signal of the ASBU leased
Transponder.

1997 : Leasing a new second generation ARABSAT 2B channel (transponder 13), whereby two TV exchanges could be carried out at the same time.

2000 : January : beginning of unilateral Transmissions between ASBU
members.

May : starting the use of services provided by the VSAT system, such as :automatic reservation, audio conferencing, telephone connection, exchange of data and information

July : substituting transponder 19 and part of transponder 17 for transponder 13 on ARABSAT 2B and inaugurating digital
broadcasting.

Two Sport Packages
Each exchange package contains sport news items produced by Arab TV netwoks and broadcast on saturdays and mondays as follows:

"Sahra Arabiya" (Arab Evening Show)
This is a show produced by ASBU members to help the viewers get acquainted with some aspects of the cultural, artistic, social and touristic life in the member country concerned. Focus is laid in this programme on information, education and entertainment related matters. It runs on wednesdays, (in both winter and summer) from 12:00 to 13:00 GMT and lasts between 60 and 75 minutes.
The Cultural Package: CULTURAL LIGHTS
It is a weekly cultural package through which cultural reports are exchanged via ASBU leased transponder on Arabsat.

Monthly Programmes Exchanges
The exchange of items
It is a monthly exchange of items about historical and touristic sites and new discoveries executed on ASBU leased transponder on Arabsat.
The exchange of songs (clips)
It is a monthly exchange of songs (clips) produced by ASBU members and transmitted via leased transponder on Arabsat.
