Khartoum, January 9, 2009 -- A delegation of the Arab States Broadcasting
Union (ASBU), headed by its Director of Engineering, Abdul-Rahim Suleiman, has
announced that Sudan will be the first Arab country to expand the use of the
Multi-Media Exchange of News over Satellite system (ASBU- MENOS) in the Arab
World. Indeed, it will expand its usage from the traditional radio and TV
exchange among Arab broadcasters to include the establishment of Sudan’s own
virtual network mostly to the benefit of the country’s news agency (SUNA).
At a briefing he gave Thursday at SUNA headquarters, in the presence of
agency’s General Manager Awad Jadain, a member of the delegation reviewed the
advantages of the MENOS network.
According to agreements, Sudan News
Agency, Sudan Radio and Sudan TV will benefit from the MENOS system of the Arab
States Broadcasting Union, by establishing their own network, covering all of
Sudan and beyond.
Members of the delegation stated that Sudan would be the pioneer Arab country
to extend the new technology of MENOS services, which enables quick and easy
transmission of text, audio-visual and video, to include a nationwide virtual
network. They explained that MENOS was a modern communication system that
provided large capability for uploading media materials and information.
