ASBU participates in the 3rd  Media Group Forum in Beijing  on AI development

The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) , represented by its Director General Eng. Abdelrahim Suleiman, participated in the Third Forum of the China Media Group (CMG) held on April 29, 2024, in Beijing. The forum focused on Artificial Intelligence development and attracted more than 200 participants from international organizations, media and research centers and multinational companies.

The proceedings started with a speech by Li Shulei, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, emphasizing the significance of media in supporting innovative use and management of AI. Participants agreed that AI should be effectively utilized to create positive, diverse, and high-quality content, enabling it to become a force for good that benefits humanity.

Furthermore, the forum urged media organizations to expedite intelligent transformation and facilitate international exchanges and cooperation in AI governance. This collaboration would ensure the healthy, responsible and secure development of AI technologies.

 
            
 
One of the key outcomes of the forum was the joint release of the "Media Action Initiative for Artificial Intelligence Governance" by the CMG, the Arab States Broadcasting Union, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, the African Union of Broadcasting, the European Broadcasting Union and the Latin American Press Union. This initiative sought to encourage media organizations, recognized as promoters of universal human values, to come together in consensus-building and take practical steps to enhance global regulation of AI. Its objective is to promote the ethical, organized and secure advancement of AI, while accelerating the creation of a progressive society in the digital landscape.
 
During discussions with various participants at the forum, ASBU Director General Eng. Suleiman reaffirmed ASBU’s full engagement in keeping pace with the continuous advancements in the audiovisual field. He highlighted its relentless efforts to empower its member corporations to seize the opportunities presented by these developments, particularly in the forefront of which are artificial intelligence technologies. These technologies offer significant opportunities for improving media operations.
 
Eng. Suleiman also recalled the 3rd Arab Media Congress organized by ASBU in January 2024 in Tunis under the theme “Media in the Artificial Intelligence Era: Opportunities and Challenges”. This congress witnessed significant participation from both Arab and international stakeholders, engaging in profound and enriching discussions. The recommendations that emerged served as a roadmap for the optimal handling of artificial intelligence technologies in the field of media.
 
 
During his participation in the forum, Eng. Suleiman visited the exhibition of the CMG on artificial intelligence, focusing specifically on the group's AI-based applications. He also had an official visit to the headquarters of the CMG, where he met with its officials. During these meetings, there was a reaffirmation of the commitment to further strengthen the longstanding cooperation between the two parties. 
This includes enhancing news exchange and the distinguished participation of the group in the upcoming edition of the Arab Radio and Television Festival scheduled to take place in Tunis from June 26 to 29, 2024.
